t was in 1977 that Jean-Paul Riaux, companion of the Tour de France, took over his father’s carpentry business located in Bazouges-la-Pérouse (35), and decided to specialize in the manufacture of wooden stairs. under the name of Riaux Escaliers. In 2000, Jean-Paul Riaux bought Mauges Escaliers and thus acquired a second production site in La Pommeraye (49). In 45 years, he developed the Riaux Group, which has now become the first French manufacturer capable of responding to a diversified BtoB clientele: from the carpenter to the architect, including the builder and developer. Aged 72, Jean-Paul Riaux has now decided to hand over to his key executives and to Luc Fernandez.
The Group controls the entire value chain – design, design, measurement, custom manufacturing, finishing, logistics and installation on construction sites – with particular attention paid to the quality of products and service. The activity is divided between Riaux Escaliers which produces approximately 7,000 staircases per year for a clientele mainly of craftsmen and builders (renovation and new construction market) and Mauges Escaliers which produces and markets approximately 3,000 staircases per year for the real estate development. Nearly 80% of the stairs produced and marketed each year by the Group are installed by internal teams. The Group is now strongly established in the Grand-Ouest, Grand-Est and Ile-de-France regions, and aims to strengthen its development in other French regions.
Riaux Escaliers is also recognized for its works of art made by Compagnons du Devoir who perpetuate a know-how in loss of skills. These so-called “special” staircases are intended for a very high-end clientele such as castles, mansions, luxury hotels, museums and libraries.
The Group recently created its network of installers under the Skali brand, which already includes some forty qualified craftsmen and offers strong development potential.
